Iranian forces are on alert against alleged Israeli and American troop concentrations in Azerbaijan.
These reports come form two sources, Arutz Sheva and Debkafiles. The details differ in both reports, but the bottom line appears to be that the Revolutionary Guard has been massing troops against what is  expected to be an attack on Iran, that this attack is coming shortly, and that it will be a coordinated attack by Israel and the US. The launching of the Ofek 9 spy satellite late Tuesday night (22 June 2010) apparently was the signal for this attack, if there is to be one.

If an attack is not in the cards and the Iranians are just crying "wolf,"  committing troops to the border is a pretty convincing cry. If an attack does come, we can expect massive bombardment here in Israel from HizbAllah and Syria. That could set off a regional war.

If there is to be American participation in an attack on Iran, the statements by Defense Secretary Gates warning of Iranian missiles striking Europe would appear to have been the straw that broke the camel's back for President Barack Obama. A hint of what may be in the minds of the Americans and Israelis comes from this recommendation from  ex-Mossad director Shabtai Shavit who spoke for many Israelis on Monday when he said:
"Since there is an ongoing war, since the threat is permanent, since the intention of the enemy in this case is to annihilate you, the right doctrine is one of pre-emption and not of retaliation...we are dealing with an enemy that plans all the time and waits for the opportunity to arise in order to attack, so what is the point, even morally, to wait and do something only when we are attacked?"
